What these 'steam-punks' fail to consider, is that there 'scene' is destroying our world and much of the nature around us...
Most, if not all of the steam-punks technology is based on coal-fired boiler technology, borrowed from the victorian industrial revolution.
Burning coal is a leading cause of smog, acid rain, global warming, and air toxics. In an average year, a typical coal plant generates 3,700,000 tons of carbon dioxide (CO2), the primary human cause of global warming - this is as much carbon dioxide as cutting down 161 million trees.
I find it rather arrogant that items as small and as simple as a wrist-watch which can nowadays be powered by lithium-ion batteries and powered by solar cells or charged from renewable sources are powered instead by a back-pack mounted boiler, producing steam and the aforementioned CO2.
(Some steampunks seem to be aware of the pollutants and have taken to wearing large goggles to protect their eyes from the carbon particles created from burning coal).
Have they no regard for the damage they are doing to the environment we all live in and share?
To add insult to injury, most steampunk technology is constructed from brass, which is not easily recyclable. After the technologies life cycle is over, unwanted equipment will have to be buried in landfill sites or dumped at sea.
I hope that soon these steampunks will instead adopt renewable energy sources and become perhaps "solar-punks" or "hydro-electric-punks" (although the practicality of the aforementioned punk standing under a waterfall may leave something to be desired). "wind-punks" could stand in fields facing into the wind, waiting a few hours to charge the large capacitor they house in their back packs. This could be used to power whatever the "wind-punk" required and would have less risk of skin-cancer than "solar-punks" face.
Hopefully these new emerging "renewable-energy-source-punks" will replace the archaic steam-punk technology and make our world a better, cleaner, safer place to live.
Over and out.

But I do think you're a little gay for buying me one.
